Technology help for businesses that don't need a full-time developer.

Sonward Engineering helps small businesses automate manual processes, improve existing software, connect systems, and build practical custom solutions.

Software architecture, automation, integrations, websites, cloud systems, and custom development.

Does any of this sound familiar?

This spreadsheet basically runs our business.

We enter the same information into multiple systems.

Our website needs changes but nobody owns it.

Customers keep emailing us for status updates.

Two systems we use don't communicate.

We have an internal process that should be automated.

We need a small custom application but not a full software team.

We know AI could help somewhere, but we don't know where.

These are exactly the kinds of problems Sonward Engineering helps solve.

Retail / Ecommerce

Ecommerce Marketplace Development

Challenge

A marketplace operator running multiple vendors through a single WooCommerce storefront had outgrown their off-the-shelf setup. Vendor payouts were handled manually in spreadsheets, product approval workflows lived in email threads, and the checkout flow didn't reflect the complexity of multi-vendor orders — split shipping, vendor-specific pricing rules, and bulk buyer RFQs all required custom logic that didn't exist.

Approach

Built a heavily customized WooCommerce platform with a vendor management layer, a custom checkout flow that partitioned carts by vendor, a QR-based product lookup and fulfillment tool, and integrations connecting the storefront to external inventory and reporting systems. Vendor onboarding became a structured workflow rather than a back-and-forth email process, and buyers could complete bulk RFQs without leaving the storefront.

Professional Services

Salesforce & CRM Automation

Challenge

A professional services firm's sales and operations teams were spending significant time each week on manual Salesforce data entry, duplicating records from external billing and project management tools, and building reports by hand. Inconsistent data meant pipeline forecasts were unreliable and management decisions were made on numbers that were days or weeks out of date.

Approach

Implemented custom Salesforce Flows and Apex triggers to automate record creation and field updates across the most time-consuming record types. Built bidirectional REST API integrations connecting Salesforce to their billing platform and project management tool. Added a reporting layer that generated accurate pipeline and activity snapshots automatically rather than requiring someone to compile them.

Technology / Operations

AWS & Serverless Applications

Challenge

A technical team needed backend automation and API infrastructure that could handle unpredictable load — jobs that ran occasionally but needed to complete reliably, APIs that had to scale with usage spikes, and integrations with third-party services that required durable retry logic. Running traditional servers meant paying for capacity they didn't consistently use and maintaining infrastructure that wasn't their core focus.

Approach

Architected Lambda-based serverless applications covering background jobs, event-driven workflows, and REST APIs via API Gateway. Used CloudFormation to define all infrastructure as code for repeatable deployments across environments. Designed DynamoDB schemas and S3 integrations for storage and processing pipelines. Set up CI/CD pipelines so deployments required no manual steps after a code push.

Operations / Administration

Business Workflow Automation

Challenge

A business operations team was managing core processes through email chains, shared spreadsheets, and manual form submissions. Approval handoffs got lost or delayed, status was invisible without interrupting someone to ask, and errors introduced during manual data transfer caused downstream problems that took time to diagnose and fix. The people doing the work were also spending significant time on coordination overhead rather than the work itself.

Approach

Mapped the actual workflows (including the undocumented exception paths and edge cases) and built automated systems replacing the highest-friction manual processes. Structured intake forms fed directly into automated routing, notification, and record-keeping flows. Status tracking was built into each workflow so stakeholders could check progress without interrupting anyone, and escalation rules handled approvals that stalled past a threshold.

About

Who's Behind Sonward Engineering

Sonward Engineering provides experienced software engineering and architecture support for businesses that need practical technical help without hiring a full internal development team.

Most small businesses hit a point where software becomes a bottleneck — manual processes pile up, systems don't connect, websites fall behind, or a tool they need doesn't quite exist yet. Hiring a full-time developer isn't always practical or necessary.
